Amidst Plagiarism Rumors: Jungkook’s Seven Breaks Its Own Records

1 years ago By Neil Ross

BTS’s Jungkook is rewriting history once again, breaking barriers and setting records with his latest single “Seven.” Despite recent plagiarism allegations, the track has taken the music world by storm, dominating charts and proving the undeniable talent of this K-pop sensation.

BIGHIT MUSIC Addresses Plagiarism Claims

In a recent turn of events, BIGHIT MUSIC has vehemently dismissed accusations of plagiarism concerning BTS’s Jungkook’s hit song “Seven.” On August 22, a media outlet raised concerns that “Seven” had borrowed substantial elements from Fin. K.L’s track “Time of Mask,” was released in 2000.

Setting the Record Straight

BIGHIT MUSIC promptly responded, stating, “We want to clarify that the allegations of copyright infringement related to Jungkook’s ‘Seven’ are unequivocally false.” The agency continued, explaining that “Seven” emerged from the creative collaboration of five foreign composers. The song is entirely unrelated to the domestic album released 24 years ago, contrary to certain claims that lack credibility in terms of substantial resemblance and plagiarism standards.

Jungkook’s Seven Makes History Amid Controversy

Despite the controversy, “Seven” has continued to shatter records since its debut, cementing its position atop various charts, including Billboard, Spotify, and the Official Charts.

In July, Jungkook etched his name in history as the first Korean soloist to concurrent debut at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, Global 200, and Global Excl. U.S. charts. This remarkable feat was achieved with his solo release “Seven,” featuring Latto.

Unstoppable Momentum: Shattering Every Record

The momentum of “Seven” remains unyielding. As of the week ending August 26, the track retained its No. 1 status on both the Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts for the fifth consecutive week. Notably, this achievement marked Jungkook as the first Korean solo artist to command either chart for a continuous five weeks.

“Seven” shattered previous records, becoming the first Korean song to hold the No. 1 spot on the Global 200 for five weeks, surpassing BTS’s 2020 hit “Dynamite,” which reigned for four weeks. Additionally, the track sustained its presence within the top 30 of Billboard’s Hot 100, clinching the No. 30 spot—a historic milestone for a Korean soloist.

Jungkook’s Historic Streak Continues

Jungkook’s historic spree isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. His recent single “Seven” has set new benchmarks for pop acts across the globe.

Global Domination by Jungkook With these new achievements, Jungkook proudly stands as the first and only Asian act to concurrently rule the Billboard Global 200 and Excluding US charts for an astonishing five weeks.

A Glance at Billboard’s Global Charts

The Billboard Global charts, launched in September 2020, offer a comprehensive outlook on global music trends, considering streaming and sales from over 200 regions. These metrics, compiled by Luminate, amalgamate data from various music services, encompassing subscription, ad-supported tiers, and digital downloads.

Unprecedented Debut for “Seven”

“Seven” made an extraordinary debut by claiming the pinnacle of the daily Global Spotify Chart with an impressive 16 million streams. This feat marked the highest opening-day streams for a male artist and collaboration in 2023. Jungkook solidified his global impact by becoming the first K-pop artist to conquer the U.S. Spotify chart and simultaneously debut at the global chart’s zenith.

Global Appeal and Triumphs

In just three days after its release, “Seven” soared to the second spot on the Billboard Japan Hot 100, indicating its swift popularity. The track also earned a remarkable distinction in the UK, with Jungkook making history as the top debut solo Korean artist on the UK Singles Chart.

According to Luminate’s data, “Seven” garnered a staggering 5.11 million on-demand streams and over 34,000 digital copies on its release day in the United States. Within four days, the single accumulated over 13.7 million streams and an additional 32,000 digital copies.

Marking New Heights

Adding yet another jewel to his crown, Jungkook secured the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Seven,” joining fellow BTS member Jimin in this accomplishment. The single’s success also translated to new peaks for collaborators like Latto, Watt, Cirkut, Bellion, and Thomas.

However, the apex of “Seven’s” triumph lies in its historic dominance on the Billboard Global charts. With 269,000 downloads and 217.1 million streams worldwide within its first week, “Seven” surpassed records set by globally acclaimed artists. This feat established Jungkook as the first BTS member to conquer the global chart summit as a soloist, showcasing the song’s timeless appeal.

In conclusion, amidst the storm of plagiarism rumors, Jungkook’s “Seven” stands strong, smashing records, claiming new heights, and leaving an indelible mark on the music landscape. This achievement underscores the undeniable power and influence of BTS’s music and its impact on a global scale.
